PERSONALITY
Jaaku is best known as the "Tsundere prince" by his classmates. He exhibits a cold and distant personality to almost everyone when he first meets them. He doesn't like to get close to people because of how often he's been hurt in the past, and he has a difficult time trusting others or showing weakness. Once someone gets to know him, however, which so far only his big, fluffy dog has managed to do, they find he's quite kind.
His past with people being quick to judge, whether it is because of his name, his history, or because he's partly Ainu, has led him to be kind to the weaker people; children and animals, mainly. He never intended to have a dog, for example, but he saw his current pet being starved outside it's owner's home, the owner having left on a trip a long time ago, he jumped the fence and rescued the poor animal. Deciding to band together as the abandoned ones, he now uses the dog for an extra pillow on cold nights and a nice cuddle buddy on particularly rough days.
He always appears to be tired at school, usually because he typically doesn't see his bed until it's late into the next morning, when he's lucky he'll get to bed before he sees the sunrise. Because he's on his own, he works part time, causing him to usually not be able to start any unfinished homework until after midnight. He typically is found doing his homework during lunch. He decided to join the host club not only because they decided tsundere was exactly what they needed, but the desire to feel accepted was calling to him. He would never admit it, but the host club has become more like his family than any family he'd had in the past.

HISTORY
Jaaku was born in Hokkaido, Japan, to a native Ainu mother and Japanese father. He was born with a bit of a strange eye color, his brown eyes an almost red color. His parents believed him to be possessed by a demon, even naming him Jaaku, meaning evil, wicked, and abandoned (among other synonyms). His parents did many different types of religious ceremonies in hopes of "cleansing him," but nothing but age turned his bright red eyes to a duller dirty red. His parents eventually abandoned the three year old toddler on the side of the road, hoping winter would be cruel enough that he wouldn't be crying for long.
An elderly couple came across him though, and he was picked up by them. They were a bit weary about a baby with red eyes, but didn't think much of it. At least not until the elderly man's wife died suddenly from a house fire, where every room was burnt down except for four year old Jaaku's room. The elderly man cast him out without a second thought, calling him cursed. From there, he ended up in foster care. He was tossed between foster homes, being cursed at, accused when bad things happened, or hit, until he eventually ended up in Aomori after running away. He's carried the nickname of cursed with him like a badge of... honor or shame, he hasn't really figured it out yet. Regardless, even he can't deny he's unlucky.
Jaaku lives in a small studio apartment just off campus. He tends to spend more time in the cafe on the first floor, however, as he works at the cafe to sustain an income. He tries not to think about his past much, although the cafe's espresso machine being set on fire was a kind reminder of his little curse. He tends to wear colored contacts, so his eyes tend to look more dark brown than the reddish-brown they actually are.

ABOUT THE ROLEPLAYER
ALIAS: Redeim
BIRTH YEAR (OPTIONAL): 1989
PREFERRED PRONOUNS: he/him
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: Tu bit his lip as he looked around the room. This was weird, it seemed like he was dreaming. He pinched his arm again, it was sore from how many times he'd done so. He looked around the room; he didn't really have much of anything, and what he did have was in a box on a chair near the door. He was originally given a bag, but he requested the box so his tablet would stay safe. He ran his hand along the laptop, a bit sad to have to goodbye to it. But in the end, it had been the hospital's.
And he was actually, finally leaving. After four long years.
Still, he was nervous, and his eyes scanned the room again and again to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything. It wasn't until he heard pawing at the window he realized he was forgetting something very important: Gray. he went over to her, unlocking the window and opening it so the small cat could climb in. He gingerly picked her up, holding her close to his chest and petting her behind the ears. "I'm actually leaving Gray... Will you come with me?" He asked, still not as nervous speaking to a cat as he was a human. He sighed, everything about today was nerves. Today was the start of something new, again.
But he didn't have a job, and he didn't have a high school diploma that most jobs required, let alone the social skills to maintain a job. He also didn't have a house, but he supposed he could only get so much government-funded health care before they all but abandoned him. He placed Gray on top of his clothes in the box, and the kitten immediately got comfortable between the edge of the box and a warm sweater Tu remembered he had worn at the beach almost a year ago. He picked up the box, stopping by the front desk to make sure all his paperwork was in order. The secretary seemed just as shocked as he was that he was leaving, but he spent a lot of time hanging out in this area, so he had gotten accustomed to giving her kind smiles or a nod of the head. She looked like she wanted to hug him, and he took a step back from the desk as she got up. She paused for a moment before offering him his release papers.
"Have a better life, Tu." She told him kindly. He finally decided he did like this woman. She was kind, respectful of his wishes, and treated all the patients equally. It was just too bad he only just truly warmed up to her now. He bit his lip as he stepped outside. It was getting colder lately, though it wasn't too bad. Still, he set the box down off to the side at the top of the steps, sitting down and curling up next to it as he mindlessly pet Gray. He had no idea where he could go, hell, he barely knew what lay beyond these steps. He let out a huff, hoping someone would come along to guide him in the right direction. (From Tu, ETLA)
