PERSONALITY
Tamaki has always been quite a character. Hyper, easily excitable, over-the-top, any synonym of that can typically describe him. However, he has a soft heart, especially for animals and people with sob stories. He's charming by nature, and knows just what to say smooth over an issue. He's a bit oblivious to his own emotions sometimes, as showcased with realizing his feelings for Haruhi. However, his heart is always in the right place, and his passionate nature mixed with his capriciousness makes for a tiring human being.
Since losing his status, Tamaki's had to do some quick growing up. He's still learning how to manage money, not used to being unable to spend frivolously, and he still gets easily fascinated by minor things like "commoner's sales," etc, but he is learning. His smarts coupled with his kindness is creating a sort of shift from his high school days, and he's become a bit more calm on first appearance. He'll still be subjected to bouts of depression, and they still come and go as they please, but he's become more controlled in showing every emotion, and is more mature in situations he doesn't like.

HISTORY
Born René Tamaki Richard de Grantaine Suoh in France, the illegitimate child of Yuzuru Suoh and Anne-Sophie de Grantaine, Tamaki lived with his mom for 14 years before it was decided he should move to Japan to become the heir to the Suoh Patriarchy. When he got to Japan, he met with a curious character, who gave him the idea for the host club. A high schooler, a friend of a friend of a friend, had been talking about the idea after visiting a host club in downtown Tokyo. It intrigued Tamaki, and hence the infamous Ouran host club was born. Most people know the story from there.
However, a little over a year after they returned from Boston, Tamaki's father died. Already heartbroken, his grandmother had to go one step further, saying she'd found some way to hold on to the riches of the Suoh family without an illegitimate child being in the way, and cut him off the family's fortune. In an instant, Tamaki lost his father, was kicked out of the mansion, and for once in his life, was completely broke. He tried to contact his mother, but she had also disappeared once again.
Betrayed, hurt, and lost, Tamaki just tried to move forward with his life. He didn't want to reach out to the host club, feeling like he'd just be a burden. Eventually he transferred from Ouran University to Aomori University, where he's been living with Haruhi and attempting to learn how live life as a commoner. Since he's had about a year of practice, he's getting better at it, but he still has money control issues, hates working, (his exact words were "you mean I have to work everyday to make just that?") and occasionally the reality of his world catches up with him and he'll be faced with what can only be called crippling depression (there are days he won't get out of bed). He's currently double majoring in history and business at Aomori University.
