PERSONALITY
Haruhi is very straightforward. She doesn't tend to sugarcoat things. And while that can tend to hurt peoples feelings, they eventually realize she was only telling the truth and she wasn't trying to hurt them. She is very responsible, especially after moving in with Tamaki and having to basically teach him how to take care of himself.
Having been raised under less affluent circumstances than her classmates at Ouran, she displays more practical and responsible qualities, and is not easily swayed by the charms of the hosts. Even when she first meets them, she only reacts nervously instead of becoming instantly infatuated like most other girls. Haruhi also has a deeper voice than other female students, has short hair and dresses androgynously most of the time, she is not easily recognized as female.
Though despite her often nonchalant nature about most things, and the fact that she doesn't seem to be afraid of anything, Haruhi is actually deathly afraid of thunder storms, to the point where she finds the closest place to hide until it is over. It has gotten the tiniest bit better now with Tamaki there to comfort her each time.

HISTORY
Haruhi was born to Ryoji and Kotoko Fujioka. When Haruhi was five her mother died from an illness, which left just Haruhi and her father. Haruhi has always been independent. Her and her father are very close, even though they are opposites, Haruhi not very in touch with her feelings and Ranka (her father) very open with his.
The decision to apply to Ouran High School was made without the consulting of her father, and she even filled out most of the paper work before he even got involved. Even after getting into school, and meeting the Host Club her sense of responsibility is what kept her in the club. (That and her seeming never-ending debt)
After graduating high school, along with the rest of the group Haruhi went to Boston. When they returned, she decided to go to Aomori University in order to pursue becoming a lawyer like her mother was. She was a bit surprised when Tamaki told her he was transferring to Aomori. While she was reserved at first about him coming to stay with her, she eventually became okay with it after learning just why he decided to come.
Living with someone who has never had to take care of themselves was, and still is, a challenge but Haruhi has long since come to grips about her feelings for Tamaki, though she may have needed a little help in realizing how she felt for him, so she doesn't mind too much.
